About Hypnotherapy

What is a hypnotic state?

A hypnotic state is a state of enhanced relaxation, somewhere between awake and asleep. Some people have likened it to the sensation they feel when they are daydreaming.

What can you expect to happen at each session?

Each session will begin with the therapist gathering information from the patient. It is important that the therapist has some information so that they can develop processes that are tailored to meet each patient’s individual needs.

All information shared is strictly confidential. The patient need only give information that they feel comfortable sharing. A therapist is a skilled practitioner who can work with minimum information.

After the information gathering the therapist will explain the healing processes he would like to use in hypnosis. The patient will then be supported to enter a state of enhanced relaxation. Whilst in this very comfortable relaxed state, the therapist will work with the patient, using the agreed healing processes, to reach the patients ultimate goal.

The patient will then be brought gently to their normal waking state before leaving the session.

How long does each session last?

Each session lasts between sixty and ninety minutes . The initial consultation may take slightly longer, sometimes up to two hours.

Who can be helped by hypnotherapy?

Anyone can be helped by hypnosis irrespective of age, gender or disability.

If you feel nervous you can bring someone along with you for support who can also attend the actual session, if you choose.

How many sessions will it take?

This will depend on several factors: what the presenting difficulties are, how long the difficulties have been around and how much the patient wants to change.

Patients do not normally have to have therapy for a prolonged period of time. Most people are surprised just how quickly benefits are achieved.

When it is felt that the patient no longer requires therapy the patient will end with the knowledge that the therapist will be available on the telephone should the need arise.

Where can therapy take place?

It can either take place at the therapist’s office or in the patient’s own home. Their may be a small travelling charge to visit depending on the distance travelled.
